WATERS FAMILY CEMETERY

September 2004
The Waters Family Cemetery is located in southwestern Logan County, Kentucky southeast of U.S. Hwy. 79 between Russellville on Olmstead in the Old Volney Community. It is located on the property lines of Richard Harper of Olmstead and Mr. & Mrs. Beshears of Bowling Green, Kentucky. Turn left onto the gravel road just after crossing Whippoorwill Creek on Hwy. 79, then take the first right through the trees and up the hill to the cemetery. It is visible from U.S. Hwy. 79.
In March 2003, a project was undertaken by Mark duBarry and Randy Parrish to clean up and repair the forgotten graveyard. It had been neglected for many years, even being bulldozed multiple times. The tombstones were not visible, some were even broken. Heavy brush, logs, and poison oak covered the entire area. Over a period of several months, the cemetery was rediscovered, renovated, and the stones repaired and reset. One previously undocumented grave and tombstone was discovered and documented bringing the total graves to five (5). More landscaping is planned for later 2004 in preparation for spring 2005. The project is documented in photos on Mark duBarry’s website located at: http://webpages.charter.net/mdubarry/ . Mr. & Mrs. Nelson Waters were Mark duBarry’s third Great-Grandparents.
